Diploma Programme
Theory of Knowledge
TOK stands for Theory of Knowledge which is a required, interdisciplinary course in the Diploma Program. It is intended to help students become critical thinkers and to become more aware of unrecognized assumptions and biases that color their perception and understanding of the world. Students learn to express thoughts based on rational arguments and to appreciate other cultural perspectives. While students have regularly scheduled TOK classes in which they are introduced to and discuss TOK concepts, aspects of TOK are also highlighted and addressed in all subject courses. In the final year of the DP, students compose a mandatory TOK essay, which is assessed by the IB, and make a presentation.
