Kindergarten Curriculum

The kindergarten immersion program is a 50% English Immersion program where the children spend about 50% of each normal day in their English-speaking environment. Language is environment specific, with each class of children having an English room where teachers ONLY speak English and a Japanese room where Japanese is the spoken language.

In the immersion English class, the children have a number of opportunities to be exposed to English when they play, do activities or have meals with native English teachers. The children pick up English naturally by repeating the same routine every day. Once they are comfortable in this routine we find they are able to cope well with the dual language environment. This routine is the same on both the English and the Japanese side. Learning English through this daily routine is the key to our immersion English education.

Katoh Kindergarten Staff

Class activities are based on a themed approach and this theme is usually the same on both the Japanese and English sides. Although the theme may be the same, activities are not taught twice. We integrate all areas of our curriculum into our theme based activities and place particular emphasis on language objectives on the English side.
